Gillybean X Quirky But Fierce trinket dish
Who doesn’t need a tiny red squirrel with thick assets to guard their beloved trinkets?
Gillian of Gillybean Pottery and Dee of Quirky but Fierce combined their creative powers to reveal what some have called the greatest trinket dish of all time (friends and family totally count as ‘some’).
The squirrel and tree were carved in wax before being cast in recycled brass by Dee in her garden studio.
The trinket dish itself is wheel thrown using stoneware clay. This design meant that special attention needed to be paid to the base to accommodate the squirrelly addition. So, between the dish design, and the curvaceously shaped squirrel, it is fair to say that this creation is all about that bass (base?), The carefully trimmed and hand stamped foot means the base gets a little extra love, making these dishes special from every angle.
Glaze testing was next, with new and existing glazes trialled for compatibility with the tones of the brass squirrel. Eventually we hit on a variation of blacks and shimmery blues we both loved. We think the glaze and the brass set each other off just right.
As these are the epitome of handmade, no two are exactly alike and they are VERY LIMITED. Once sold out, they are gone forever.
The perfect gift for the person always misplacing their rings, stones and pine cones found on a walk, or committed to supporting as many local creatives as possible with each purchase.
MEASUREMENTS are approximate. As each item is entirely handmade, measurements may vary slightly.
Dish diameter: 12.5 cm
Total Height: 8.5 cm
Materials: The squirrel and tree is made of recycled brass from electrical plugs, door hardware, and other fittings. A protective coating has been applied to prevent tarnish, even in the balmy Irish air. Ceramic dish made using high fire white stoneware clay and glazed using a variety of durable high fire dipping glazes.
Care Instructions: Dust with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasives.
