The Mizen Mug
Handmade by Gillian, a Galway native living and making in Belfast, NI.
Inspired by the gorgeous Mizen head peninsula in County Cork.
Irish coastal landscapes really are unbeatable. This hand painted mug came into being following the most wonderful family holiday in County Cork. The colours I captured in my photographs were begging to be committed to a ceramic surface.
The process of developing the glaze finish was prolonged, but an intensive period of trialing, testing and tweaking saw things taking shape. Eventually, I was happy with the precise application techniques and glaze combinations. The variety of textures on the surface adds interest.
I designed this specific mug shape and size so as the rolling landscape design wraps it’s way around the entire mug without interruption. Happily, a wonderfully comfortable hold is not sacrificed.
Wheel thrown, hand finished and hand painted.
These pieces are made using made durable high fire stoneware clay and are made to withstand daily use.
Pieces are dishwasher safe.

Light to hold, feel great in the hand
A huggable generous shape
Smooth hand pulled handles (large enough for the important 4 finger grip)
Turned foot, a little design flourish.
Stamped with the Gillybean logo
An 'I want to pick you up right now' glaze finish
Functional and durable! High fire stoneware, strong chip resistant glazes, dishwasher safe.
A rounded smooth lip, no undesirable lumps or bumps!
